Roadmap
Shipped Where we're at — Mac v0.20.0-alpha.17 · Windows v0.11.27
Clippy already does a lot. Here's the honest list of what's working in production today:
- 30+ direct skills — emails, calendar, Excel, files, system info, reminders, web search, browser control
- OpenAI GPT brain — OpenAI's GPT models power every Clippy response
- Browser automation — direct DOM access via Chrome DevTools Protocol, no fragile UI clicking
- Native macOS app 🍎 — universal build for Apple Silicon & Intel, signed by Apple Developer ID and notarized
- Smart screen awareness — reads structured text from the OS accessibility tree (not pixels) so he knows what's on screen
- Text-to-speech — Clippy can read replies aloud through your speakers
- Multi-monitor support on Power & Max
- Custom personas on Power & Max — pick Clippy's tone & personality
- Auto-updates — signed (Azure Trusted Signing on Windows, Developer ID on Mac), installs in the background on next launch
- Sleep / wake — right-click Clippy to send him to sleep when you need quiet
- One-click bug reports — local logs attached automatically, lands in our inbox
- Free plan + 7-day Power trial — use Clippy free forever, or start Power free for 7 days · cancel anytime from the welcome email
Working on it Up next
These are actively in development. No promises on dates yet — we ship when it works.
- Voice control 🎙️ — talk to Clippy out loud and have him drive your computer for you. "Hey Clippy, open my calendar and book a meeting with Sarah at 3." Hands-free, natural, no typing.
- Wake-word detection — Clippy listens for his name in the background (locally — never recording until invoked) so you don't need to click first.
- SmartScreen trust — accumulating Microsoft reputation so the install warning disappears for new users.
On the way What's next after that
Planned, designed in our heads, not yet built. Order roughly reflects priority.
- New characters 🎭 — bring back the whole Microsoft Agent gang. Merlin the wizard, Rover the search dog, Genie, Links the cat, F1 the robot. Pick your buddy. Same brain underneath, different face on top.
- Custom characters — bring your own sprite. We're designing a small format so artists and modders can ship their own assistants.
- Windows feature parity 🪟 — the Mac build currently leads; bringing the Windows app up to the same skill set is in progress.
- Linux support 🐧 — community-driven port, planned after Windows parity.
- Workflow recording — record a sequence once, replay it on demand. "Clippy, do my Friday status update."
- Slack & Teams native skills — read DMs, post messages, summarize threads — without the browser middleman.
- Mobile companion — push notifications, voice trigger from your phone, screen sharing both ways.
Wishlist Wild ideas we're noodling on
No commitment, just thinking out loud. If any of these excite you, tell us — your votes shape the roadmap.
- Local-LLM mode — run Clippy fully offline against an on-device model for privacy-first users.
- Plugin SDK — let the community ship their own skills (a Spotify skill, a GitHub skill, a home-automation skill).
- Multiplayer Clippy — share a Clippy across your team. He remembers context across people.
- Lip-sync & emotion — character animations that match what Clippy is saying, not just generic loops.
- Vision skills — point Clippy at a screenshot or a photo and ask questions about it.
